A road trip across Iceland traversing the island in a circle. No plans, no reservation,a tent, two backpacks, two sleeping bags, one car,one map...we had set off on a boundless journey through wilderness and breathless scenery. The map describes our route."Beautiful" is an understatement to describe this country.Mountains, valleys, glaciers, tiny villages, green eyed humans, volcanoes, craters, oceans, tunnels...the list is endless, you name it and you see it here.

Tips and Ticks

We took the Wow Airline which was comparatively cheaper than Icelandic Air.Tough Wow Air has lot of baggage rules but if you pack intelligently , you wouldn't have to pay extra. We went for this trip in the month of June, which is the peak summer month, even though needed layers of clothing .Good weather proof jackets are advisable as weather changes in few minutes.Sometimes you might get days of rains or very dense fog or the sun .Weather is very unpredictable. Though Iceland has a language of its own .People of Iceland speak English fluently. Therefore , other than big names of the places , which are hard to pronounce and remember , you will not face any difficulty to communicate. Iceland's currency is Krones, but US credit cards are accepted everywhere even in the remotest campsites. If camping, sleeping pads are important as it gets colder in the night.Iceland is the safest country for backpacking and camping as crime rates are very low. You need not book campsites in advance .Abundance of campsites exceed the number of campers thus walk in is always welcome. You can car camp almost anywhere unless it is a national park . In summer , the sun never sets. Its an added advantage , you can take rest anytime and roam around when ever you want. But please do not overkill yourself .The sun is up all time does not mean you do not need to sleep.Try to maintain normal sleeping hours.Carry eye guard ,if camping and light bothers you. Carrying food and drink with you is a good idea , as stores are not very readily available once you leave Reykjavik.
